Welcome to My Name is Mother, our corner of the internet where we enthusiastically share our homeschool education highs and lows, thoughtful insight for preserving childhood and engaging ways to cultivate home; don’t worry there will be a smattering of other topics too.
Fun Facts about Courtney
I hail from Kansas City, Missouri and across the Missouri River is Kansas City, Kansas. Odd but true, two cities with the same name in different states separated by a river.
- My husband and I met in 7th grade, but we had no interest in each other until college.
- I was about as unprepared as you could be to give birth to my first child, even though he was a week late and I had “extra” time to try to learn something . I didn’t understand dilation, how to breathe, how to push, what the placenta was, where the epidural is placed. Yep, I was that in the dark.
- My sister and I have started several businesses together, the first was an Etsy shop that supplied handcrafted party supplies like S’mores in a jar, invitations and paper treat bags.
- I was homeschooled from Kindergarten through Seventh grade and I swore I would never homeschool my kids…well, well, well, how the tables have turned!
- I’m a loud person, and I always have been. There have been so many times that I have been embarrassed with my volume. Most recently walking into my daughter’s Ballet Recital Dress Rehearsal, for some reason I assumed that the auditorium would be loud, but upon entering I found all heads turning as my voice was the loudest again.
- I stumbled upon the Montessori method of education when my oldest was a toddler, since then I’ve received my Montessori early childhood credential and love incorporating Montessori into our lives whenever I can.
Quirky Facts
- I wanted to be a cowgirl after seeing barrel races at the American Royal when I was a child. Then I fell off a horse when I was 13 and haven’t been back on one since.
- I traveled to Sydney, Australia in 2000 and was able to see the Olympic Village, look at wild kangaroos behind our house and try Vegemite on toast. Did you know that when you flush the toilets the water goes the opposite way in the Southern Hemisphere?
- I always dreamed of living by the Ocean and now I do.
Meet Morgan
Hey! I am so happy that you are here, I think we are part of a pivotal generation of moms who have to stand firm in our beliefs, built up on the Word of God and ready to be brave in the face of a culture that is looking to tear families apart, pull kids away from their parents through endless distraction, and confusing messages on media filling our heads with anxiety producing information.
My name is Morgan and I am married to a deep thinker and late night talker who I met in the wide halls of our college prep high school. Who knew the boy I would help keep up in Spanish class would be the love of my life and my greatest supporter. We have 2 boys and we are on a mission as a family to live for Christ in word and deed.
My life in Kansas City consists of learning how to cultivate a welcoming home environment filled with truth, beauty, and goodness. I do this through working hard against my natural tendency to go-go-go and to slow down, explore nature, stop for a conversation with a neighbor, let my kids get muddy, and attempt to make as many varieties of gluten free and dairy free desserts as possible!
Honestly, spending time at home as a homemaker, wife, homeschooler, and small business owner wasn’t on my radar, even though I was homeschooled for many of the primary grades I just could not see myself spending my days at home with young children filling our time with nature, adventure, and play. And yet God re-wrote my story and I am learning by doing and on this journey discovering a beautiful life that is unfolding before me.
Outside of home, I am a Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and have written for family resource websites like Kids Eat In Color and have been interviewed on podcasts such as The Be Well by Kelly Leveque podcast. My goal is to serve moms well and provide holistic, compassionate, and realistic support.
We hope our blog will be a place of belonging for you and that each visit leaves you feeling , known, seen, and refreshed!
